1983～85年にかけて江口寿史が複数の雑誌に連載・掲載した短編コミックを集めた『寿五郎ショウ』をアニメ化。下品な一家の娘と上品な一家の息子がお見合いをする『下品な一家』、その続編で結婚後の一家を描く『さらに下品な一家』、『あしたのジョー』のパロディで『「エイジ」』の原型となった主人公が登場する『理由なき反抗』、巨大怪獣と科学防衛隊の戦いを描く怪獣映画のパロディ作『怪獣王国』の全４編。これらは、当時レンタルショップに置かれていた「レンタマン」（いくつかの作品が収録された雑誌感覚のアニメビデオ）に１編ずつ収録。後に全４編をまとめたビデオとLDがリリースされた。主題歌の「平成天下泰平節」は、『下品な一家』シリーズで下品な父親役を演じた屋良有作が歌っている。
